ePortfolio Reflection -Communication Theory 401

I created an ePortfolio for a previous class, which allowed me the opportunity to really learn about the creativity process of Wix. Wix has so many options for personalization, and I knew that I was going to have to explore to find the best way to display my accomplishments. After learning that I would also use Wix in Communication Theory 401, I knew that I would have the chance to take my page to the next level. I also felt like since I used Wix for a previous course, there was no room for a less than average page. I looked forward to the opportunity to improve my page and have it represent my professional career.

The ePortfolio encouraged me to think objectively and critically about communication as a whole, and allowed me to explore various theories throughout the semester. Learning about various theories opened my mind to things I didn’t quite understand about communication, and challenged me to apply what I’ve learned to my life. By using wix.com I believe I’ve added content to my professional experience. When I search for jobs in the career field I’m interested in often a requirement is experience. By displaying my resume, course projects, and blog entries in my ePortfolio, I give employers the opportunity to see what I can do professionally.

What I loved most about ePortfolio was the amount of personalization given to the users. The colors, fonts, blog elements, background images, and gallery options allow the users to have their page become a representation of themselves. Having an ePortfolio allows me to display my accomplishments and also have a page that represents me. The most challenging aspect of the ePortfolio is the navigation of the actual page. When I tried to scroll up or down using my arrows keys, the page would not move with the keys. This aspect became frustrating when it came to displaying content on my page.

When it comes to my ePortfolio I am very satisfied and would not change a thing. I’ve actually liked creating an ePortfolio so much that I bought my own domain from Wix.Com. I feel strongly that having a portfolio will be very useful when I’m job searching because it displays my resume and projects. If an employer wants to know about my work and who I am, the ePortfolio is a great way for them to find that information.

If I could give advice to future students about making an ePortfolio, I would tell them to not give up. If things start to get tedious and you find yourself getting frustrated, remember that it is all worth it in the end. Nothing worth having comes easy so you have to work hard for it if you want it to pay off. Also, take the feedback you receive from your professor and apply it to your ePortfolio. I have enjoyed trying to make my ePortfolio better, and I truly believe it will be beneficial to me in the future.
