Wix Reflection

I first learned about Wix this semester and was excited to learn more about the site and how I could expand my network. I not only had to utilize this website for my Persuasion class, but also for another class that I’m taking this semester. Being a communication major I was excited to learn more about Wix and to have the opportunity to create a network. An outlet to share various projects I’ve worked on, and to also display a sense of who I am as a student and young professional.

When I first signed up for Wix I was eager to learn more about the website. Like I mentioned above I believe that networking is a key component to expanding yourself. I’ve learned that people use Wix to display their talents and their work. I feel like I’ve improved my professional presence by having a variety of topics displayed on the site. A person can view my resume, projects, and get a sense of my goals and aspirations.

What I like most about my portfolio is the personalization within the website. I was able to decide the colors, the images, and the style that I wanted. I love that I am able to edit all of those things easily and swiftly. I thought it was very interesting the array of options available to personalize a portfolio. The site allows a person to be very precise with what exactly that wan to display. I really enjoy the fact that my portfolio displays my hard work, which brings about a sense of pride. I’m now excited to tell people more about my site and am looking forward to keeping it updated.

My favorite assignment in Persuasion this semester that was posted to my portfolio was the advertisements project. I really enjoyed learning the various techniques that companies use to sell products more effectively. I found it intriguing the many ways the producers try to appeal to the consumers. The fact that I was able to document my analysis on YouTube was very exciting. Someone can actually view my opinions about specific advertisements and can provide feedback if they choose to. I actually received some feedback on the actual video, which was pretty awesome. I had quite a few assignments I enjoyed but this one was definitely my favorite.

The most challenging part of the portfolio was learning how to operate and navigate Wix effectively. There are so many ways to personalize your portfolio; it really took some time to learn how to utilize all the options made available. I actually watched a YouTube video on how to setup a Wix website. Watching that video really helped me personalize my portfolio the way I wanted to. If I were to give advice to future students about operating and navigating effectively I would tell them to do research on Wix.com first. After getting familiar with the website I would then tell them to make sure they managed their time effectively. You don’t want to wait until the last minute and have your portfolio look mediocre. You never know who may view your portfolio, and since it represents you it definitely needs to be precise.

My view of persuasion has changed since the beginning of the semester. Someone can persuade an individual to do something but it’s so much more to it. Something so simple like an image, a saying, or even music in a commercial can persuade a person. Messages are constantly persuading us, sometimes without us even realizing it. I have enjoyed interacting with my classmates through the discussion board and reading the various posts in their portfolio. Reading the various opinions really makes learning fun, and helps the ideas we discuss in class stick. I’m excited to see how my portfolio helps my future professional endeavors, and I look forward to keeping it updated.
